Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing and using the LI Hockey website and services, you accept and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to abide by the above, please do not use this service.

2. League Participation

Registration Requirements

• All players must be at least 17 years old or have parental/guardian consent
• Valid email address and contact information required
• Players must complete all required registration forms and waivers
• Registration fees must be paid in full before participation, unless a written agreement has been made with the leaders of the league

Player Conduct

• All players must conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner
• Verbal or physical abuse of officials, opponents, or teammates is prohibited
• Players are responsible for their own equipment and safety
• Violation of conduct rules may result in suspension or expulsion
• Physical Contact: Body checking is strictly prohibited
• Dangerous Plays: Boarding, charging, blindside hits, or slew-footing will result in automatic game misconduct
• Fighting: Results in immediate ejection and minimum one-game suspension
• Respect for Officials: Abuse of officials will result in immediate ejection and further disciplinary action
• Team Responsibility: Captains are responsible for ensuring their team conducts itself with integrity and respect
• Any non-hockey play with intent to injure another player or official is strictly prohibited

3. Payment and Refunds

Refund policy details:

• All refund requests are subject to approval at LI Hockey's discretion
• Refunds are generally not available once payment has been completed
• A 3% processing fee will be deducted from any approved refunds
• Medical exemptions may be considered with proper documentation
• League cancellations due to circumstances beyond our control may qualify for refunds
• All refund requests must be submitted in writing to our contact email
• Processing time for approved refunds may take 5-10 business days

4. Waiver of Liability, Release, and Indemnification

Acknowledgment of Risks

I, the undersigned player, understand that even though the Long Island Hockey League is a non-contact league, ice hockey is an inherently dangerous sport. I acknowledge that incidental contact and unforeseen accidents may occur during play, and I voluntarily assume all risks associated with my participation.

Release of Liability

In consideration for being permitted to participate in the Long Island Hockey League, I hereby release, waive, and discharge Long Island Hockey LLC, its officers, directors, employees, agents, and any other affiliated parties (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all claims, liabilities, demands, actions, or causes of action whatsoever, including but not limited to claims for personal injury, property damage, or wrongful death arising out of or in connection with my participation in the league.

Indemnification

I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Long Island Hockey LLC and the Released Parties from any loss, liability, damage, or costs (including legal fees and expenses) incurred as a result of my participation in the league, whether caused by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise.

Emergency Medical Treatment

In the event of an injury or medical emergency, I authorize Long Island Hockey LLC and its designated personnel to secure emergency medical treatment on my behalf. I understand and agree that I will be responsible for any and all costs related to such emergency medical care.

Dispute Resolution and Arbitration

I agree that any disputes arising out of or relating to this waiver or my participation in the Long Island Hockey League shall be resolved exclusively by binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the applicable arbitration association. I waive any right to a trial by jury or to participate in a class action lawsuit.

5. Equipment and Safety

Required Safety Equipment

• Mandatory Equipment: All players must wear helmet (with minimal half shield), gloves, shin guards, elbow pads, and hockey pants
• Shoulder Pads: Optional but recommended for additional protection
• Helmet Requirements: Must have at least one securely fastened strap at all times during play
• Goaltender Safety: If a goaltender loses their mask during play, the game will be stopped immediately
• Equipment must meet league safety standards
• Players are responsible for maintaining their own equipment in safe condition
• LI Hockey reserves the right to inspect and approve/deny equipment

Stick Safety and Usage

• Players must keep sticks below shoulder height during play
• Reckless or dangerous stick use will be penalized
• Slapshots are allowed in all divisions when used safely

6. Privacy and Data

Your privacy is important to us. Please review our Privacy Policy to understand how we collect, use, and protect your personal information.

7. Modifications to Terms

LI Hockey reserves the right to modify these terms at any time. Changes will be posted on this page and players will be notified via email when possible. Continued participation constitutes acceptance of any modified terms.

8. Termination

LI Hockey reserves the right to terminate or suspend any player's participation for violation of these terms, unsportsmanlike conduct, or any other reason deemed appropriate by league management.

9. Medical Conditions (Including Pregnancy) and Voluntary Assumption of Risk

I acknowledge that it is my sole responsibility to determine whether I am medically fit to participate in league activities, including but not limited to circumstances such as pregnancy, cardiovascular issues, orthopedic conditions, or any other health concern. I understand and agree that:

1. Long Island Hockey LLC is not required to request or verify medical clearance for my participation.
2. The league reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to request written clearance from a licensed medical professional at any time and may restrict or suspend my participation until such clearance is provided.
3. By choosing to participate without providing such clearance, I am doing so entirely at my own risk, and I expressly waive and release any claim that the Released Parties were negligent in failing to require or obtain medical clearance.

I further agree to promptly notify the league if I become aware of any medical condition that could affect my safe participation.
